It does not hurt to be an amateur photographer

I am an Amateur

What can I say about photography? I love it. This may sound a little unambitious, but I am writing my opinion regarding my approach towards photography. I am aware of the potential income that I can make by making a business out of this hobby. The way I see it, it remains as my hobby, not my source of income, or even side income.

I started to have an interest in photography when I was 19 years old. At that time, the only device that I had with me was a camera phone, and that also belonged to my sister. Two years ago, I got my first digital camera. I bought a Sony DSC W120. I learned what I could about photography, using the camera as my main machine. I visited quite a number of photography websites to find my way in the hobby. Surely the compact camera did not provide me what a DSLR camera can offer.

So that was why, a year later, I decided to purchase a DSLR camera. And my choice was a Nikon D80, which at that time was already out of production, since it was replaced by a much better D90. That did not matter to me because I thought that D80 was enough of a camera for me to learn more.

I learned to operate the D80 at my own pace, and I knew that it was worth the money I spent. I've taken many photos using the machine, including the one you can see above. That was my latest shot of a crying kid. I enjoy being an amateur, because I have no themes to be met, no photo assignments to be completed, no customers to be satisfied, and above all, I can do it anytime I want.

Being paid for my photos would be nice, but considering my own level, I dare not take an assignment, for I fear that I would fail to meet the requirements. This may sound unambitious of me, but I think I would rather be happy not to be paid than being paid and get anxious over completing the given assignment

Nothing wrong with having a hobby. Work with it because you love it and you will likely learn enough to know how much you still have to learn. Maybe one day - somewhere in the future - you will be able make some money at it.

thanks for understanding what I am trying to express. yes it's true that I do need to learn more, but as photography is not related to my study, I need time to spend on photography. Maybe one day, right duchess? =)
